Flight Operations Engineer

Galaxia is looking for a Flight Operations Engineer to help fly and manage our smallsats and nano satellites in LEO. Reporting to the Director of Mission Ops, you'll monitor spacecraft health, plan maneuvers, and keep our satellites operating safely and reliably in orbit.

Responsibilities

Based in our Halifax office, the Flight Operations Engineer reports to the Director of Mission Ops and is responsible for the safe, reliable operation of Galaxia's smallsat and nanosatellite constellation in LEO. You will plan and execute day-to-day flight operations, monitor spacecraft health and performance, and support anomaly response and orbital maneuver planning across a growing fleet.

Flight Operations

Monitor spacecraft health, telemetry, and subsystem performance across the constellation on a daily basis
Plan, schedule, and execute routine commanding, pass operations, and orbital maneuvers
Lead or support anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and real-time contingency response
Participate in an on-call rotation to support LEOP and critical operations

Orbital Dynamics & Constellation Management

Perform orbit determination, conjunction assessment, and collision avoidance planning across the constellation
Support constellation deployment, phasing, and station-keeping strategy as the fleet scales
Coordinate with SATCOM and ground segment teams to maintain reliable command and telemetry links

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with spacecraft engineering, ground systems, and software teams to improve operational tools and procedures
Develop and maintain operating procedures, flight rules, and contingency playbooks
Report on constellation health, performance, and operational risks to the Director of Mission Ops

Requirements

What we look for:

Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
Background in spaceflight operations, with working knowledge of SATCOM systems and orbital dynamics
Ideally 3–5 years of experience operating and managing large constellations or smallsats in low Earth orbit
Strong understanding of spacecraft subsystems, telemetry analysis, and commanding procedures
Comfortable working in-person in Halifax and participating in an on-call operations rotation

What sets you apart:

Direct experience flying or operating a large LEO constellation (dozens to hundreds of satellites)
Experience with mission planning, flight dynamics, or orbit determination software (e.g. STK, GMAT, or similar tools)
Scripting or automation experience (Python or similar) for operational tooling
Calm, methodical decision-making under pressure during anomalies or critical operations
