Galaxia is looking for a Mechanical Engineer who will own mechanical subsystems from concept through flight, designing structures, mechanisms, and thermal solutions for spacecraft that must survive launch loads, vacuum, and extreme thermal cycling. You'll work closely with electrical, software, and systems engineers to turn CAD models into flying hardware.
Department:
Engineering
Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer at Galaxia you will work on small and nanosatellites that push the boundaries of what compact spacecraft can do. You'll be trusted to make real engineering judgment calls, defend your designs in reviews, and iterate fast when test data tells you something needs to change.

Design & Analysis

  • Design, analyze, and fabricate mechanical structures and mechanisms for CubeSats, small satellites, or related flight hardware
  • Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis to verify designs against launch and on-orbit environments
  • Develop and maintain detailed CAD models, drawings, and BOMs (SolidWorks, NX, or similar)
  • Support component and material selection with attention to mass budgets, outgassing, and space-qualification requirements

Test & Verification

  • Lead or support environmental test campaigns (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock) and troubleshoot test anomalies
  • Contribute to design reviews and iterate quickly based on test data and mission requirements

Integration & Fabrication

  • Work closely with electrical and systems engineers on mechanical/electrical integration, harness routing, and packaging
  • Support fabrication, machining oversight, and hands-on assembly/integration of flight hardware

Documentation

  • Generate and maintain technical documentation, test reports, and design justification packages

Requirements

What we look for:

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in aerospace, satellites, robotics, or another hardware-intensive industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, or similar) and drawing/GD&T standards
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, integration, and test
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative environment with limited resources and evolving requirements
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines

What sets you apart:

  • Experience with CubeSat or small satellite standards (e.g., CDS, ECSS, P-POD/deployer interfaces)
  • Exposure to vibration, shock, or thermal vacuum test environments
  • Knowledge of deployable mechanisms (solar arrays, antennas, booms)
  • Familiarity with space-grade fasteners, lubricants, and staking/conformal coating practices
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T

About Galaxia
Proudly Canadian, we don't just build state-of-the-art satellites, we build the infrastructure layer for intelligence in orbit. From software defined satellites to real time edge processing and communications, Galaxia delivers secure, resilient connectivity across space, air, and ground for Canada and the globe. This is not lab work. Systems built here operate in orbit and are relied on.
